Hi,
hope all u guys are doing well :-)
There so many great looking sites out there on the net I was wondering , is it really good looking sites that people love to go back to?
Is it just the graphics, the flash animation that gets the users attention?
but then when i think of it, google is one of the least appealing sites but folks surely use that a lot.
So what is it that keeps users glued to ur site? what is it that will make them come back for more??
I would like to know your views on how a site can be made interesting or what is it that users look for on a website.
what do potential clients look for when they visit a particular service providerws website?
I personally feel the following would make a site interesting.
1. if its a product then mabe an interactiveflash demo of how the prodcut works would really be appreciated.
2. having a feature of an online chat where people can shcedule their talks or having a sales person online to answere basic queries is also a good feature
3. having a search facility is real cool
4. if its a multinational firm then i guess every geography could have a one point contact person, a map , weather report, of that particular country .
5. Ofcourse a multinational firm that will have an option to view the website in local language is also a goood idea
dont know if it makes sense
but these are all that i can think of for now , any one has any more???

Content is king - no matter how good looking your site is audience retention will fail if there is nothing beyond the facade to engage them.
1 - Intelligent and relevent content (demographic specific).
2 - Fast and easy acces to the content.
3 - Intuative navigation of conent.
4 - Personalisation and follow-up (through data capture, mail lists, newsletters etc)
5 - Updating where relevent.
Depending on the type of site
6 - Innovation.
7 - Communication tools (chat's, forums, blog commenting etc)
8 - Rare shots of naked celebs

I think Communication tools is most important for some business website. But it isn't same to every website. as you said: most company's website just is a marketing tool.
i very agreed " Content is king"
But sometime we don't have enough content, communication maybe is another kinds of content. it can auto-update by itself.
communication on some level is content which renews itself richfully
