Piano Man

A smartly dressed man found wandering in a dripping wet suit on the Isle of southeast England, on April 7 has puzzeled police and the care workers after he refused to say a word .
The tall, blond-haired man, who is in his 20s or early 30s, wearing a formal black suit and tie, was spotted by police on April 7 and taken to a psychiatric unit where it proved impossible to identify him because he had apparently lost his memory and has not spoken a word since. It was only after he was given a pen and paper ,he drew detailed pictures of a grand piano and, when shown the piano in the hospital chapel, he sat down and played for hours, causing hospital staff to nickname him "Piano Man."
the spokesman said "Apart from mentally, the man is healthy, and he is washing himself. But he does not communicate at all, so he cannot receive counseling," He said a tabloid newspaper has provided the man with a piano; playing noticeably calms him down. When he plays, he is totally focused -- he cuts out everything else and it makes him calmer. The man's social worker, has said that when he is not playing the piano, he remains very anxious. Away from the piano he starts to breathe very quickly and shies away from people. The Daily Telegraph said the man might have suffered a mental breakdown.
Hospital staff have already ruled out reports that he recently attended a funeral locally. Interpreters from Poland, Latvia(拉脱维亚) and Lithuania(立陶宛) were brought in to see if he was from Eastern Europe, and possibly an asylum seeker, but no one was able to get through to him.
And the National Missing Persons Helpline has received 320 calls and 70 e-mails after releasing a picture of the man and one of his piano drawings on Monday’s newspaper. The health trust has also received a number of telephone calls.
“Very little is known about him as he has not been speaking with staff at the hospital where he is being cared for, but he has a talent for playing classical piano,” said the spokesman in a statement. Newspapers said members of the public had contacted authorities to say they may have seen the man giving concert performances around Europe.
It was funny that on May 29th British police and social workers said they were no closer to finding out the identity of the mysterious so-called "Piano Man" despite claims he was a classically-trained Czech (捷克人) musician called Tomas Strnad. But 3 days later, on June 1st, Tomas appeared on television to say it was not him.
The case has drawn comparisons the 1996 Oscar-winning film Shine, in which actor Geoffrey Rush played Australian pianist David Helfgott, who overcame a nervous breakdown to return to performing.
The piano man appears to be a professional pianist and has amazed everyone who has heard him.
What could have happened to him and who is he? May be we'll soon find out.
