Auto Trade Surplus Soars in First Six Months [2005-8-4] 发表在
摘自中国国际广播电台 China's auto sector reported a surplus of 1.7 billion US dollars over the past six months of this year. With the drop in the number of imported vehicles, domestic automakers are delighted to show a fivefold increase in exports. From Shanghai, CRI's Wang Jing has more. Reporter: There have been two different scenarios unfolding in the auto market in the first six months this year, for imports and exports. Reports from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show imports dropped by about 30 percent and exported vehicles increased by five times over the same period last year. Wang Zhihui, an auto analyst from Shanghai Shenyin & Wanguo Securities outlines several reasons for the decline in imports. "The government has adjusted policies towards imported cars. Imported vehicles need to pay tax as soon as they arrive at ports in China. At the same time, there's a higher demand for the qualification of sales agents of imported vehicles. There are also more luxury cars setting up China plants, allowing them to assemble their own cars in China." Meanwhile, domestic made trucks, buses, and especially compact sedans are gaining popularity overseas. Car manufacturer Geely makes economy models in Ningbo. They are now sold in 30 countries in Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Chery Automotive, another rising star in the Chinese market, is also pushing ahead with plans to export up to 50,000 cars within this year. The whole industry reported a 1.7 surplus in trade. This is also the first surplus in the auto sector for six months. However, as Wang Zhihui points out, the biggest exporter in auto market is the auto parts, not the vehicles. "Auto parts are the major exporter. Although exported vehicle outnumbers imported ones, they are not in terms of money. " He says the surplus may continue into the second half this year, as performance of domestic made cars gets better. The latest report by the Ministry of Commerce says the production of automobiles in China is estimated to edge 5.8 million by the end of this year, and domestic demand is 5.7 million. For realtime Beijing, this is Wang Jing.
