Mentioning sports, basketball surely can't be unrelated; referring to basketball, you can't fail to associate it with NBA——National Basketball Association, which is the highest level of play for men in the United States, for the simple reason that it is endless passion, excitement and valuable spirits that lies deeply in it.
It has been said that football is the most popular game in the world, for it has the largest population of fans. Admittedly, it’s true in term of statistics, but basketball is absolutely the most exciting sport. Watching a basketball game, you never have to wait so long to see an excellent shot, or feel unfocused cause of two many players wandering on the vast field. Basketball is a fast-moving and high-scoring sport, drawing your attention without a second excepted.
A basketball game is an enjoyable visual feast. It has many exciting shots like fadeaway, a shot taken while the player is moving backward, away from the basket. When the ball is stolen by the opponent, a fast break comes on immediately, and another exciting shot is on show——alley-oop, a pass way up near the basket. The player leaps and attempts to catch the baseball pass and score before returning to the floor. And the most powerful one is slam-dunk, when a player leaps high into the air and slams the ball through the hoop from above. That's how “Shaq”（O’Neal）smashed three backboards into pieces. That's why Vince Carter is called the “““““Canadian Flying Man”.That’s when Michael Jordon says to himself “I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky…” Besides extraordinary individual performances, you can see amazing harmony between teammates in that it is a teamwork. Through all the passing, rebounding, defending, scoring emerges the perfect combination of ingenuity and power.
No other game is full of varieties and surprises like basketball. For one thing, so many players make a living in the union, each one has his special skill to survive, playing different position to serve different task. There are notable figures, who lead and make legends; there are vital bench players, who assist to win the game with a feather on their cap; there are also many obscure ones, who are struggling to the top class. Since players make up the team, different teams have their own distinguished style. Some win victory by gorgeous offence, while some others score a success in ground of tight defense. 30 teams fight in the union and each two will have 4 matches in the regular season. As every team has the same supreme goal: the NBA Champion Ring, all the players are totally dedicated to the game, then the game is by no means boring.
For another, on the court, miracles do happen. Unless the game is over, no one could tell the final result. 0.4 second is enough to make a big reverse because Mr. Critical is capable to accomplish mission impossible, never hardly ever let their fans down. So the basketball game can be quite dramatic. Even Worst team has the chance to blow down the best one. Such a game whose result cannot be foretold is always attractive.
Watching one’s admired superstars playing basketball is exhilarating. Whenever I see Kevin Garnett combating on the court, my heart bounds with joy and I yell encouragement inside，“Drive, KG, Drive.” I’m just a drop of the sea formed by zealous fans including celebrities. We willingly devote our strong feelings and wishes, infinite support and loyalty to the exciting sport.
Quick tempo, intense competition, heat atmosphere, aggressive players, hot cheering squad and passionate audiences, all of these make up a wonderful world. And the spirit of basketball lies in it—— to win a championship, more than talent is needed，it takes sacrifice and commitment to one another to be a unity and coordinate well, it requires the players to cherish the hope, to make every endeavor and never give up to pursue exceptional performance and to achieve sovereign ideal. More importantly, it is contagious to all the people, not only fascinated by but deeply understanding and loving the sport, to make better lives. How could I not love this game?
