The skills the school should emphasize

On the senior year in university, many students would face the same questions when seeking a job: High credits, but low job prospect. My credits are fine, why did those big companies still refuse me? If I’m still not good enough to be recruited, so what skills had I really learnt all through my school life? Corporations all emphasize on “ability”, but what “ability” really is?
Well, ability seems something invisible. Is it organizing activities at school? Is it undertaking positions in the students’ union? Or is it just gaining this so that kinds of certifications? No exactly. Ability stands for your skills of communicating and cooperating with other people confidently, your composed attitude when handling tough incidents, and your own style of analyzing and solving problems. It is something internal, something dominating your thoughts and your ways of doing things. In a word, it’s your unique character and personality that can distinct you from other people.
But schools in our society have long been focusing on textbook studying, rather than personality nurturing. They urge students to study hard and do well in exams, using rewards like scholarship as incentives. Seldom do they encourage students to have their own thoughts and develop their own interests. In this way, school is just a place manufacturing same products every year, not a shrine creating young individuals with vivid thoughts and mind. Students have focused too much on their scores but little on history and literature. When they walk out of school one day, they’ll find themselves lack of common sense and are not well adapted to the society. Then they’ll feel confused and ask: what skills had I really learnt at school?
So schools should take most of the responsibility. They should better Schools should move away from the traditional emphasis on textbook knowledge to a focus on the ability that makes every student independent and the nurturing of personality that make every student unique. Not everybody should be scientists or scholars in the future. So schools should no longer judge them with the same measurements, but should provide stages for all kinds of students.
