Tinderbox 1 is a collection of 18 filters for the After Effects professional. The plug-ins include tools to manipulate mattes with sub-pixel precision, distortion effects, background generators, lights rays and features the fastest software blurs available. T_Blur
T_Blur is a time constant sub-pixel gaussian blur. It is very fast at large and small blurs and being sub-pixel can be smoothly animated over time. It can operate on the whole image, individual colour components or the luminance. It can also be used to sharpen the image.
T_DirBlur
T_DirBlur smears pixels in a particular direction. Tracking information can be used to automatically set the amount and direction of blur to simulate motion on fast moving objects.
T_Diffuse
T_Diffuse scatters pixels in an image.
T_Etch
T_Etch simulates a hand drawn picture using charcoals. Lines are drawn along edges and cross hatching is used to fill in regions. See also Tinderbox 4 T_LineDrawing.
T_Starburst
T_Starburst is a simulated lens filter that adds sparkles to highlights. Includes parameters to change number of rays, rotation and luma clip levels.
T_Beam
T_Beam draws a spotlight in 3D space. The position of the light source can be animated and the beam can be rotated in all directions. The beam can either be composited with the source image or used to generate a new image.
T_Sky
T_Sky generates realistic evolving skies. There are controls for the 3D camera position, clouds, sun, haze, fog, atmosphere and sun flares with numerous presets to get you started.
T_Degrain
This plug-in is used to remove grain from an image. The aim is to remove as much grain as possible whilst doing as little damage as possible. It uses spatial filtering, borrowed from our Furnace image processing technology, to average pixels within the same frame. This can lead to a blurring of the image and so, to keep this to a minimum, a wavelet based technique is used that decomposes the image into a number of different frequencies and scales before attempting to remove the grain.
T_Deflicker
Borrowing image processing technology from Furnace, T_Deflicker is designed to reduce spatially variable flicker from a sequence. Most current flicker reduction tools are global, that is they try to reduce the same amount of flicker from the whole image. If only parts of an image are flickering this technique will fail as it will reduce the flicker from one part but introduce it in another. The challenge in automatically correcting for spatial variable flicker is differentiating between flicker and motion.
T_HeatHaze
T_HeatHaze simulates the layered rippling distortion that is characteristic of viewing images through hot air.
T_Droplet
T_Droplet is a single droplet ripple effect with amplitude, wavelength, phase, speed and other controls.
T_Caustic
Simulates the patterns created when light rays are reflected or refracted by a curved surface. Caustics can often be seen at the bottom of a swimming pool in bright sunlight or on objects viewed underwater. T_Grad
Creates colour gradients. Gradients are often used as mattes to control other effects. T_Pattern
Generates various patterns to wipe between the source image and the underlying layer. T_Rays
Creates a backlit ray effect. The rays are sourced from selected areas of the image's luminance, or a matte. The colour of the rays can come from the source image or a fixed colour. It's fast too. Very fast. T_Tile
Translates, rotates, scales and shears the source image. The edge controls can then be used to repeat the pattern to form regular tiles. T_Distorto
T_Distorto deforms one clip using the luminance of another. This is a gem of a plug-in that is extensively used in post-production to fake and control the distortions seen in reflected objects.
T_Lens
T_Lens is a distorting plug-in that creates a fish-eye lens effect. The bulge can be applied into or out of the image.

T_Bandlimit
T_Bandlimit converts an image into Fourier space, removes or keeps user specified frequencies, then converts it back into an image giving very stylised results. T_Chromatic
T_Chromatic blurs and separates the colour components of an image to simulate the colour fringing seen when light is refracted through poor quality lenses. T_Contour
T_Contour draws closed lines along pixels with similar luminance. The result can be blended back into the original image. T_Glass
T_Glass gives the impression of viewing an image through a layer of distorting glass. T_Glow
T_Glow applies a glow effect to the image. Neon and other looks are possible. T_Grain
T_Grain adds noise to images to simulate grain. A luminance curve is provided to reduce the amount of grain added in the shadows and highlights. T_LensBlur
T_LensBlur simulates the true defocussing characteristics of a camera lens to give realistic focus pulls. It includes controls for the shape of the camera diaphragm, highlight blooming and chromatic aberration. It's fast too. Very fast. T_LensFlare
T_LensFlare generates realistic and highly customisable lens flares. There are controls for the bright spot, light rays, polygonal lens inter-reflections and much more. T_Newsprint
T_Newsprint converts images into their constituent dots patterns that are characteristic of printed material. There are three different print methods - Two Tone, CMY and RGB. T_Blob
T_Blob renders smoothly shaded blobs that gloop together when they get close to one another.
T_NightSky
T_NightSky renders the brightest 9000 stars visible from Earth. It uses real data so you get to see the constellations in their correct positions and with their correct colour. A dozen presets display the constellations. T_PseudoColour
T_PseudoColour creates a false colour look by mapping the luminance of an image through a colour gradient. T_RadialBlur
T_RadialBlur smears pixels in all directions from a point or circumference of a circle. They are often used to simulate crash zooms or light rays. T_Ripple
T_Ripple is a distorting plug-in that simulates linear waves.
T_Wobble
T_Wobble applies camera shake with motion blur to a clip. T_Swirl
T_Swirl distorts an image around a point. Two algorithms are provided, swirl and vortex. T_Paint
T_Paint processes an image into one that looks as though it had be painted with acrylic paints. The brush width, softness, stroke lengths, smearing and more can be animated and customised to give a huge variety of paint styles from stippled brush effects to broad, sweeping paint smears. Tinderbox 3 is a collection of 18 filters for the After Effects professional. The plug-ins include tools to erode and despot mattes, effects to simulate poor television reception and old film, and sparks, lightning, plasma and starfield generators and much more. The new Tinderboxes are available as a boxed set (physical DVD box with a CD) or as a software download. Boxed sets are subject to postage and packaging. Tinderbox runs on After Effects CS3 for Mac OS X or Windows. (An older version is also available for AE7.) All the plug-ins are fully multi-processing and operate at 8/16/32 bit. Tinderbox comes with free customer support for After Effects. It is not supported on Combustion or Final Cut Pro.
T_BadTV
T_BadTV processes a clip to make it look as though it was being broadcast on a television suffering from poor reception. A master control alters the overall signal quality to produce ghosting, snow, edge distortions, colour loss, vertical roll, misaligned guns, shash effects, power loss and other effects for televisions, security camera and videos.
T_BumpShade
T_BumpShade gives images the appearance of depth by falsely extruding from the luminance or matte. Lighting is provided to accentuate the relief and parameters to soften the effect are supplied. Can be a useful tool for giving cartoons a shaded look.
T_CircularBlur
T_CircularBlur smears an image around a point giving the appearance of motion blur on a rotating object. It’s fast and includes filtering options and controls for the hold out at the centre.
T_Condensation
T_Condensation renders thousands of water particles that clump together into water droplets. The droplets are used to distort the source image giving the appearance of water condensation on glass. There are lighting controls and the effect auto-animates drips.
T_GradientBlur
T_GradientBlur finds the gradients in an image and uses these to produce directional vectors that selectively blur the image either along or perpendicular to the vectors. Interesting painterly effects can be achieved.
T_DiffusionFilter
T_DiffusionFilter simulates the effect of diffusion lens filters by softening and colouring the diffused highlights & lowlights.
T_EdgeDetect
T_EdgeDetect finds and highlights edges in images. The result can then be blended back into the original using the built-in blending methods. Quick glows and back-lit effects are possible using this technique.
T_OldFilm
T_OldFilm converts contemporary video footage into images that look as though they have been shot on film and left to degrade over time. Scratches, dust, hair, stains, vignette, defocus, defielding, highlight diffusion, grain, camera flicker and other effects are included. There are controls to double up frames for that staccato old film look. Preset colour effects like sepia, black and white, techicolour and forties take the hassle out of setting up this effect. Brightness, contrast and saturation controls for each individual colour channel for fine tuning. A burn through effect allows the film to stick in the gate and burn under the light. Everything you need really.
T_Silk
T_Silk is digital wrinkle cream. It is used to reduce wrinkles, freckles and minor blemishes in actors’ faces without you having to draw mattes. It is a tolerance blur with a variable blur size that can be used to maintain edges and smooth off regions of a similar hue.
T_Turner
T_Turner generates noise artifacts in your image giving the look of a faded mottled painting. See also T_Paint in Tinderbox 2.

Generates SMPTE, EBU, EIA, 75% and 100% colour bars and other test patterns for use in setting up monitors.

Exactly mimics a film lab bleach bypass process where the silver in the negative is retained giving a very stylized look. T_Cartoon

A versatile tool for floating point channel and image manipulation. It provides a range of functionality including image based arithmetic, clamping, clipping, channel rewiring and colour space conversion. Uses statistical analysis of the image to provide various forms of automated colour correction. It is designed to replicate the skills of a colourist for normal colour balancing.
