I used to be afraid of going out without my parents,because I thought I would get missing and I had to do things all by myself.But it changed after I had gone to a summer camp without my parents.
It was the summer holiday in 2002,when I was a middle school student.One day,my friend Anna asked me if I wanted to join a summer camp which was hold in Hangzhou Arboretum.I was unable to decide for myself,so I asked my parents for help.They said they were happy that there was a good chance for me to practice myself.I finally decided to go though I really worried about the troubles that I might meet.
It was a 3-day vacation which showed children how to survive in the wild.I was happy and nervous as well.The camp leader was a thin woman,who looked very energeticl.Anna and I,with other 17 children,went to Hangzhou Arboretum by taxi.When we arrived there,we were all attracted by the beautiful scenery.I though"we will live and play in such a pretty place,it must be very interesting!"
The first day we went to climb the mountain.With the sunlight shining on our heads,carrying our water bottles and bags,all of us felt tired and hot,but none of us complained.I just tried my best to catch up with the others.Later,the leader found a cave and we went in.There we had a rest,and discussed what we had seen.Someone said he saw many insects,someone said he saw many stange stones.When it was my turn,I stood up and said"I saw many pretty flowers which I've never seen before.They have different colours and shapes,though I don't know their names,I really like them."After we finished climbing the mountain,we went to swimming.The natatorium was not far from the hotel where we lived.I was really excited though I couldn't swim at all.Anna was good at swimming,with the help of her and the leader,I was albe to swim.Lying near the swimming poor,listening to the sound of the water,I felt comfortable.
The second day we went into the forest.The camp leader told us that if we got lost,we shouldn't be frightened.We could use our compass to have a sense of direction.She also told us how to make a fire and how to put up a tent.I learned much general knowledge from her.We also tried to put up a tent by oursleves.Later,we took turns riding a horse.When I started to ride,I felt scared.I was afraid that I would fall down.But after several miunits,I felt it was funny.In the evening,when I was wirting my diary in my room,Anna came in.
"Don't you feel excited today?"
"Yes,I do!Since it was my first time to do such activities,I was really excited!But I miss my mom and dad so much."
"So do I"Anna said,"But we should learn how to wash our own clothes,how to wash and dress,how to live without them."
Anna's words really inspired me,I though she was right.
I like the third day's activity most---picnic.We would cook and roast by ourselves.The leader and us were busy around on the picnic grounds,preparing delicous beef,chicken wings hotdogs and bread.Most of the food smelled good,however some of them were not good,the leader told us to put the food which we didn't like to eat into a round container,someone would take it to feed the animals.We laughed and joked,having a good time.Around noon time,the vacation was going to be over,we should return home.
When my parents saw me,they were very happy and asked me if I had had a wonderful time.I said"Yeah,even though the wasps stung me all least five times,I still feel very happy.I've learned a lot and I was able to live alone.The summer camp was an unforgettable one!"We all laughed.
