| | A series of minute jumps in the magnetization of a ferromagnetic material as the magnetizing force is increased or decreased, discovered by H. Barkhausen in 1919. If a rod of ferromagnetic material is surrounded by a search coil which is connected to an audio amplifier and is then subjected to an increasing or decreasing magnetic field, a series of crackling sounds will be heard from a speaker connected to the amplifier. |
