In cgs, the magnetic dipole moment caused by a current loop carrying current[u] I is given by

For an electron with azimuthal quantum number l, the magnetic dipole moment is given classically by

where I is the "current" caused by the orbiting of the electron, A is the enclosed area, T is the "period" of the electron's orbit, r is the radius, is the charge on the electron, v is the speed of the electron, L is the angular momentum, is the mass of the electron, and is the Bohr magneton. Writing in the usual form,

where is the orbital gyromagnetic ratio and is h-bar.
The z-component of the electron orbital magnetic dipole moment is then
