The corundum structure is a general structure of a class of minerals consisting of hexagonal close packed O atoms with cations filling up 2/3 of the central octahedral sites. The cations occur two in a row, the skip a site. This pattern is staggered for adjacent rows.
| Mineral | Formula |
| corundum | Al2O3 |
| hematite | Fe2O3 |
| ilmenite | FeTiO3 |
| periclase | MgO |
