The exsolution process in some materials causes components of a mineral to separate into homogeneous phases in solid solution. The compositions which will separate at a given temperature are given by a subsolidus phase diagram. The compositional region where the separated phases fall is known as the miscibility gap. The diagram fro plagioclase is more complicated, involving three miscibility gaps.
