Sum41是新朋克浪潮中的弄潮儿，他们带有新金属气质的朋克乐，让人耳目一新。
Sum41于1999年在加拿大的安大略省成立，成员分别为：Derick Whibley （吉他，主唱）， Dave Baksh （吉他，主唱）， Cone McCaslin （贝斯）和Steve Jocz（鼓手）。乐队以他们在现场强有力的吉他和狂躁的节奏，立即在当地的音乐圈内名声大噪。99年年底，他们得到了Island唱片的赏识并与该公司签约。
2000年6月，乐队推出了他们的首张专集“Half Hour of Power”。这张唱片的开场曲“Grab the Devil by the Horns and Fuck Him up the Ass”就足以颠覆所有人的耳朵。在这首仅1分06秒的歌曲中，人们仿佛可以体验到旧日英国金属的味道，Iron Maiden（铁娘子）式的调子随处可见。在这首多少有点回顾意义的作品之后，专集马上被铺天盖地的流行朋克旋律所覆盖了。象“Make No Difference”和“Summer”这样的作品，都带着很悦耳的hook line，但也有的乐评人认为，这张专集并不出色，其中相当一部分作品多少带着早期Green Day和Blink182的影子，那样的作品在电台中是难以得到好的评价的。
此后，他们得到了与Mighty Mighty Bosstones，the Offspring和Blink 182等这样的乐队同台演出的机会。乐队的呼声也越来越高。
2001年，乐队带着在巡演中积累的丰富经验进棚录音。乐队找到了知名制作人Jerry Finn为他们制作第二张专集“All Killer No Filler”（Green Day的“Dookie”和Blink182的“Enema of the States”和“Take off your pants and jacket”均为Jerry Finn制作）。这张专集让组队还不到两年的Sum41一跃成了MTV台的大明星。热门单曲“Fat Lip”被人形容为Green Day 和Beastie Boys的混合体，并收录进了青春片“American Pie 2”电影原声带。
2002年，Sum41的第三张专集“Does This Look Infected?”发行。在专集的一首MV中，乐队嘲讽了the Strokes，the Hives等乐队，引起极大争议。
Sum41完美的融合了朋克的激情和金属的技术，快速，密集，激烈的歌曲，主唱略带金属而饱满的朋克唱腔大大的不同于现在很多的朋克主唱（仿佛青春期永远不会结束？）非常到位，整张专辑一气呵成，绝对是给你来了一针兴奋剂.
