ps. 虽然说的是Flash的certification,但是对于其他的证书都是同样道理的!
Last week I sat down to take the Flash MX 2004 Developer Exam. Although I have been using Flash since version 4, the maturation of Flash as a development tool makes a lot of my past product knowledge obsolete and I found parts of the test rather challenging. Thankfully I managed to know enough to pass the test and was quite pleased at gaining the new certification.
When I returned to the office however, I began to think about the certification and the impact it would have on my career and business that we attract as a firm in general.
These thoughts were fed in part by the fact that I had also passed the Flash 5 Developer test a few years ago and while it was good for the ego, it also proved to be good for business.
At that time there were very few certified Flash 5 developers in our area and the certification gave our qualification package that extra bit of credibility when matched against competing firms. Clients that didn't know enough about Flash to ask pertinent questions seemed to look at the certification as proof that our knowledge of the product would enable us to do the job they required. As Flash becomes more ubiquitous, clients will hopefully more readily recognize the Flash MX 2004 Developer Certification as an indication that our firm's skills continue to be current.
Personally, certification serves another purpose. Today Flash has become even more powerful than it was in version 5 and each new incarnation of the product delivers a broader scope of tools for the developer. With these tools also comes the inevitable learning curve of trying to keep your Flash skills current so that you can tap into this power. Certification, for me, is the carrot that keeps me learning and growing as a developer of Flash applications. The external acknowledgement from Macromedia that I possess legitimate and quantifiable expertise in the use of Flash lets me know that I am keeping my skill set up to date. This in no means says that I know it all, believe me nothing is farther from the truth, but it does let me know that I am going down the right track.
Before you test, I would recommend the Certified Developer Study Guide by Macromedia Press. The book breaks down test topics into easy to review chunks and helps point out a few areas of the software covered on the test that you may not generally use in you day-to-day work. A sample test is provided, but don't rely on it as an indicator of success on the real test as it is much easier. Another good review tool is as a Central Application named Certifiable by Daemon. This application provides a number of sample test questions that can help you gauge your certification readiness.
